WeFax Receiver
Weather fax charts
#receive#wefax#hf#weather#image
What it does
SimpleShips far out at sea can't always get internet, so weather offices broadcast weather maps over the radio as slowly-drawn pictures called WeFax. This app can receive those maps — you'll see fronts, pressure systems, and coastlines drawn out.
How it works
SimpleDark and light parts of the map become different tones; the app turns the tones back into the black-and-white map, line by line.
How to use it, step by step
Simple- Use an HF antenna.
- Open 'WeFax RX'.
- Tune a weather-fax schedule frequency.
- Watch the weather map draw itself.
Examples
Sea-area chart
Receive a surface-pressure analysis chart for a sea area near you.
Schedule hunt
Use a published radiofax schedule to catch a broadcast at the right time.
Tips & things to try
- You need an HF-capable antenna and a quiet band — radiofax lives on shortwave.
- Get the LPM/IOC settings right or the map skews.
