Detector (Signal Detector)

Wideband presence detector

#utility#detector#rssi#sweep

What it does

Simple

This watches a wide range of frequencies and lights up when there's a strong radio signal nearby, keeping a little history of what it noticed. People use it to check whether something is quietly transmitting in a room.

It's like a smoke detector, but for radio energy — walk around and it tells you where things are 'hot'.

How it works

Simple

It sweeps across many frequencies and compares what it hears to a threshold you set. If something is louder than that threshold, it flags it and remembers it, so you can tell when and where a strong signal showed up as you move around.

How to use it, step by step

Simple
  1. Open the 'Detector' app.
  2. Set how wide a range to watch and how strong a signal must be to flag.
  3. Walk around a room.
  4. Watch it light up near strong signals and check the history.

Examples

Room sweep

Check a room for an unexpectedly strong near-field transmitter.

Find the noisy gadget

Track down which device is radiating by watching where the detector fires as you move.

Quick presence check

Confirm whether a suspected transmitter is active before digging in with a full sweep.

Tips & things to try

  • It sits between Level (one frequency) and Looking Glass (full detail) — great for a fast wide check.
  • Set the threshold to your environment: too low flags everything, too high misses weak emitters.
  • Use it to find *where* to look, then switch to Looking Glass to see *what* it is.
