SAME / EAS (Concept & Law)
How emergency-alert headers work
#transmit#same#eas#alerts
What it does
SimpleYou know the harsh screech and 'this is a test of the emergency alert system' on TV and radio? Those are SAME/EAS headers. This page explains how they're built — but faking a real emergency alert is illegal and can cause panic, so it's only explained here, never to be transmitted.
How it works
SimpleA burst of data at the start says what the alert is and where it applies, then the attention tone plays. Faking it would make real alert systems and people react to something that isn't real.
How to use it, step by step
Simple- For understanding only — never transmit a fake alert.
- Learn what the header data says.
- Understand why faking alerts is harmful and illegal.
Examples
Header decode
Understand how the event and area codes target a specific warning.
Why it's protected
See how a fake alert could trigger real emergency responses and panic.
Tips & things to try
- Educational only — faking EAS/SAME alerts is illegal.
- The same 'authentication gap' theme as ADS-B/GPS: the system trusts the message.
