What it does
SimpleThis sends typed words the vintage radio way — by switching between two tones, just like the RTTY receiver reads. Type your message, pick the speed, and it warbles out across the airwaves.
With a licence it's a fun mode to actually operate, and it pairs perfectly with the RTTY receiver so you can send from one device and read it on another.
How it works
SimpleEach letter becomes a group of five 'high note / low note' choices, sent one after another with start and stop markers so the receiver knows where each letter begins and ends. A special shift code flips between letters and numbers, just like Shift on a keyboard.
How to use it, step by step
Simple- Use a ham licence, or a dummy load.
- Open 'RTTY TX' and type your message.
- Set the speed (baud) and the shift.
- Send it and read it on the RTTY receiver.
Examples
Transmit RTTY and decode it on a second device to validate baud/shift/polarity.
Practise sending a callsign-and-report exchange as hams do in RTTY contests.
Change the shift and watch how it must match on the receiver to read correctly.
Tips & things to try
- Mark/space polarity must agree at both ends — reverse it if you get gibberish.
- 45.45 baud with a 170 Hz shift is the classic amateur setting.
- TX→RX loopback into a dummy load is the quickest way to prove your settings.
