What it does

Simple

A jammer is a device that shouts radio noise so loudly that nothing else can be heard on a channel — like someone blasting an air-horn so no one else can talk. Because that breaks other people's radios, using one is illegal almost everywhere and can be dangerous.

We explain it here only so you understand what jamming *is*, how to recognise it on a waterfall, and how good radio systems are designed to resist it. That defensive knowledge is genuinely useful; operating a jammer is not something to do.

How it works

Simple

Radios work by hearing a signal that's louder than the background noise. A jammer just adds a huge amount of noise so the real signal is drowned out. Defences make the real signal hop around or spread out so the noise can't cover all of it, and monitors watch the spectrum to notice when someone is jamming.
